WEVA Expo 09-Day One

9.15.2009

So we are here at WEVA Expo 2009 in beautiful Orlando at the brand spanking new Hilton. So far it has been an action packed event spent catching up with many people we had the pleasure of meeting at Re:Frame Austin. Seeing people like Steve Zugelter (Studio Z),Ryan Koral (Epic Motion) David Perry (David Perry Films) Matt Davis (LS Videography) John Hyland (Paperfield Films) Steven Nathanson-Kelley (Event-DV Editor) to name a few, was truly awesome. We also had the pleasure of meeting the Jag 35 and the Genus crew,Steve Weiss (Zacuto) and Joseph Stunzi (IENCE.com) who was hard at work for F-Stop Academy. Talking with him I realized quickly that guy is a genius. After the opening gala we met up with Philip Bloom and Dennis Lennie (F-Stop Academy) and were later joined by industry leaders when Jason Magbanua,Ron and Tasra Dawson, David Robin, and Kevin Shahinian joined the party. The 7D was there in all it's glory and we got a chance to finally use it. It's slightly lighter then the 5D MK II and it is awesome.Philip Bloom jumped up to go get Steve Weiss and left the camera behind before ever one else got there. I remember thinking if I grab it now and run he may not catch me. Then I remembered that Philip Bloom is a bit larger then me and could probably clobber me. Although, after watching Critics: Episode 2 I don't know if he would have the heart to do that in front of Steve Weiss. More to come stay tuned...

Dublin's People- First short film Shot on 7D

9.11.2009

Philip Bloom has been at this for over 20 years. So when a new piece of equipment comes out he is the obvious choice to turn to to find out how that equipment works. In this case we are speaking of course about the highly anticipated and debated Canon 7D. What did we learn from this short? Well besides the obvious, that Philip Bloom is an amazingly talented filmmaker and has a wealth of knowledge that he shares freely with the filmmaking community... We learned this. Any doubts about the Canon 7D's capabilities have been squashed. Is it as good as the 5D MKII strictly speaking about image quality. Of course not. Is it however, a highly capable DSLR in regards to capturing great HD Video in low light situations. Yes. Does it offer the 24p. Yes. As well as 60 p,50p (when shooting 720p) and 24p,25p,and 30p (when shooting 1080p) These are exciting times we live in if your a filmmaker or even a fan. Stay tuned for our coverage of WEVA. Where Philip Bloom and Den Lennie of F-Stop Academy will be presenters.
