Canon 5D MKII Drops Below $2500

1.14.2010

Canon 5D MKII Drops below $2500  and B&H is throwing in a 16 GB SanDisk and a shoulder bag.
Why is the Canon 5D MKII having this sudden price drop. Rumblings on the internet indicate that
Canon may be trying to entice people in the market for a camera to buy now before Nikon
releases the D700s the D800 and perhaps a bigger surprise. Hmmmm... is Nikon finally ready
to throw down and come to the party? Hey better late then never and anything that causes
competition can only be beneficial to all.
While your at it check out this

Headed to In[Focus] in Austin

I am very excited! Tomorrow I will be flying out of Philadelphia with
@cristinavaldivi and @amypruett. We are headed to Austin,TX for
IN[FOCUS]. I've been to Re:Frame Austin,WEVA,Re:Frame San Francisco
and now we will be headed to the first IN[FOCUS] event. Time permitting
I will try to cover the event to the best of my ability here, so stay tuned.

"IN[FOCUS] is born out of necessity for a rapidly changing world.
Approximately 30% of brides today hire a professional videographer – we don’t think anyone in our industry is satisfied with that number, but we know that as more studios participate in in-person education, the faster this percentage will rise. IN[FOCUS] will provide that education for you.
With DJ’s and photographers recognizing the 70% window of opportunity and adding video to their services, how will you differentiate yourselves from those vendors that may reach the bride first? IN[FOCUS] will show you how.
With brides becoming more familiar with quality wedding video, demand will increase along with their expectations. Will you meet the expectations of the 21st Century Bride? IN[FOCUS] will inspire you to.
With a prolonged recession coupled with the introduction of new technologies and web services, will you make the best decisions for your business. IN[FOCUS] will help guide you through the challenges.
From our 2010 conference in Austin, in which you get to rub shoulders with many of the best in the industry, to our educational blog, where our cutting edge team shares how to best run a business and maximize technologies, IN[FOCUS] is with you throughout the year to help take your business to the next level.
By keeping you focused on your business, IN[FOCUS] will encourage you to get to the top of your market by running the most efficient, artistic, service oriented businesses you possibly can.
It pays to stay IN[FOCUS]." For more info on this event go to www.infocusvideoevent.com

Everything I Know About Standing Up for What's Right I Learned From Conan O'Brien

1.12.2010

(Graphic courtesy of comedian Paul F. Tompkins Facebook page)

Under pressure by NBC to move to a later time slot so they could bump Jay Leno to 11:35 this was Conan O’Brien’s response:

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I've been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I've been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I've been absurdly lucky. That said, I've been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn't the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn't matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it's always been that way.

Yours,

Conan

I always thought Conan was a very funny intelligent guy. But WOW! That is refreshing. I mean just think of your own “ultimate dream job”. Then think of spending the better part
of your life working towards that goal only to finally achieve it. Would you be able to risk all of it to stand up for something you believed in? I think he has set quite an example here.
Bravo Conan!!

You Know What They Say About Assumptions

I sometimes assume that people see and read everything I do. Not sure why but I do it.
I wanted to spotlight an incredibly groundbreaking contest that Vincent Laforet, Canon, and the good folks at Canon have been kind enough and ingenious enough to start. I am super excited to see where this
goes. Trust me, Cristina and I are putting our heads together and hope to participate in this brilliant
contest. I really, really like how the story is kicked off for us and then it is just a matter of who's imagination
runs wildest. I encourage everyone to participate. It says either in the comment part or one Vincent's blog
that they DO NOT expect you to be able to match the last shot. They DO NOT expect that you will
have a whole crew so this will not be judged harshly from a technical standpoint it's more about the
creative/storytelling side. Also you DO NOT have to have a Canon. Even though Canon is sponsoring this
they don't care if you shoot it on a Nikon. Now there is something to be said about that. I think it speaks
volumes to what this contest is really about. Now watch the video below and get to thinking!!
