IN[FOCUS] Day One Recap
1.18.2010
We went to Pennypacker Bridge to shoot a timelapse. While Cristina was doing that I climbed up a tree.
It's the first time I've done that since I was probably 7 years old. Lately I have just been trying to see things
from a unique perspective. Now I don't claim that these are the most amazing photos ever. However, out of 100 people that have been up there I wonder how many people climbed that tree to get a new vantage point on that place.
Sometimes in life you have to cllmb a tree and look at things differently. Then later that night Cristina and I
went downtown to shoot some more. A young girl walked by and said,"You guys are shooting timelapses
that's so cool." Obviously we are in Joe Simon's stomping grounds i thought.
After an amazing morning with Ron Dawson driving home the importance of social media, and William Gaff
explaining how important story is to filmmaking, we headed off to lunch at The Courtyard Cafe.
I highly recommend the Little Johnny Burger.
It's a half pound angus burger topped with pickled jalapeno deliciousness, smothered
in pepperjack cheese served on Texas Toast. Incidentally,it was served to me by
the Most Overqualified Waiter in the World. I'm pretty sure he was the manager of the hotel,if not he should be,but it made us feel V.I.P. nonetheless.
We came back recharged and super excited for David Perry's presentation. One of my favorite quotes from his
presentation was, "People are like teabags...you don't know what their made of until you put them in hot water."
So when some technical difficulties arose and briefly halted David Perry's presentation, I thought "How fitting.
We wouldn't know what he's made of until we put him in hot water." He did what I expected him to do.
Bounced back like a champ using a fistful of arrows to drive home his point. (You had to be there)
Then he ended it with an unbelievable finale I can't even do justice here. It was inspiring, and moving
with a profound deepness that I would have to say would be difficult if not impossible to parallel.
As if this day wasn't already amazing enough then we sat down for Laura and Steve Moses
who did an amazing job on tackling the topic of filmmaking, equipment, and taking it back
to the basics. Their emphasis was on the fact that it's not all about the gear. They showed
a funny clip where the woman called them the "videotographer". They talked in depth
about the fundamentals of filmmaking and kept everyone's attention by peppering the
presentation with hilarious video clips and a great sense of humor. They really
put the "fun" in fundamentals. Yeah I said it.
My laptop battery is almost dead so I will post more later.
